Financial Support

Financial Support

Prospective students are encouraged to apply for external fellowships and secure funding through Graduate Student Research (GSR) positions with a major professor. The Graduate Group in Microbiology traditionally provides a limited number of rotation fellowship packages to incoming students via the Graduate Program Fellowship Allocation fund provided by the Office of Graduate Studies. These awards are based on academic achievement and promise.

The group does not administer research or training funds. Inquiries about the availability of these forms of support should be addressed to prospective major professors or department chairs.

Fellowships administered by the university are available on a competitive basis to qualified applicants and continuing students. Applications for fellowships are included in the Application for Admission.

A number of prestigious NIH-training fellowships are available on a competitive basis for qualified PhD students. Those are usually available following advancement to PhD candidacy (i.e. after passing the qualifying examination).

PhD students in the Microbiology Graduate Group are paid a stipend that is competitive with other comparable programs in the nation, as well as full fees/tuition and health insurance benefits. Financial support is not provided for MS students.

*We strongly advise international applicants to seek fellowship support from their home countries. International students without financial support usually are not accepted into the program. Please contact the Graduate Group Coordinator (kddoyle@ucdavis.edu) prior to seeking admission.
