Prof Hess and his students Ellen Lai preparing the artificial gut for the next experiment during which the effect of prebiotics and probiotics on the microbial communities inhabiting the gut of animals and humans is investigated.

The photo was taken in Ghana and Tanzania as part of a veterinary training for Dr. Gallardo's USAID project “feed the future innovation lab to improve poultry”. We look for resistance in African chickens against Newcastle disease.
